Archery Mentorship Program

The Primal Wilderness Outfitters Mentorship Program is a 10-month immersive experience designed for adults and youth who are serious about learning how to ethically pursue wild food through archery hunting. This program is built for those who want more than a single guided hunt—it is for people who want to understand the entire process, from preparation and planning to harvest, meat care, and long-term stewardship of the land.

At its core, this mentorship is about developing capable, responsible hunters who understand that hunting is not simply about success in the field, but about respect. Respect for the mountains that provide opportunity, respect for wildlife populations, and respect for the life taken to sustain our own. Participants are taught to approach hunting with humility, gratitude, and a conservation mindset that prioritizes ethical decision-making and responsible land stewardship.

Over the course of 10 months, students participate in monthly field exercises and hands-on instruction designed to build real-world confidence and skill. The curriculum covers every stage of becoming a self-sufficient archery hunter, beginning with archery shooting techniques, shot placement, and understanding ethical kill zones. Students learn how to effectively glass terrain, identify animal behavior, interpret sign, and understand how movement, weather, and habitat influence game patterns.

Planning is a major focus of the program. Participants are guided through hunt strategy, including e-scouting, map analysis, big game draw applications, and tag strategy for western hunting opportunities. Mock hunts are used to simulate real hunting scenarios where students learn to build a stalk, read terrain, use wind direction to their advantage, and make sound decisions under pressure.

The mentorship also teaches the practical side of mountain hunting. Students receive guidance on gear selection, building personalized gear lists, camp setup, wilderness safety, and creating a physical training program tailored to backcountry hunting demands. Fitness is approached as preparation for capability—not competition—ensuring participants are physically ready to travel safely and effectively through mountain terrain.

A strong emphasis is placed on ethical and selective harvest. Students learn how to evaluate animals, make responsible harvest decisions, and understand the long-term importance of conservation-minded hunting practices. Once an animal is harvested, instruction continues through field dressing, meat care, transport, and proper processing so that nothing is wasted and the harvest is treated with respect from field to table.

The program culminates with real hunting experiences that allow participants to apply what they have learned. Included in the mentorship are one guided private land wild pig hunt and one guided public land big game hunt, providing both controlled and challenging environments to build confidence and practical experience.

This program is not designed to create clients—it is designed to create capable hunters who can step into the mountains with knowledge, purpose, and respect for the responsibility that comes with harvesting wild food
